The Voice of the Templars, Religious-military order created in 1119 in Jerusalem by Hugh of Payns to protect those who went on pilgrimage to the city. The members first had the name of Christi militia and then, when they settled in the royal palace in Jerusalem near the Temple of Solomon, militia templi. Confirmed in the Council of Troyes (1128), and rigidly organized, the order was made up of knights, who wore a white cloak with a red cross and could own castles, and squires, who dressed in brown. They could indifferently be lay people or priests. At the head of all was the Magister militiae templi, assisted by seneschal, marshal, gonfalonier and almsgiver. The order soon spread, partly welcoming the spirit of the Cistercian reform. It also spread in Europe (especially in France, England, Aragon, Portugal) and built many churches similar to that of Jerusalem, which always had the name of temple. The Templars. they distinguished themselves on the battlefields in Tiberias (1187), in Gaza (1244), in Al-Manṣurā (1250), in Acre (1291). Si diffuse anche in Europa (specialmente in Francia, Inghilterra, Aragona, Portogallo) e costruì moltissime chiese a somiglianza di quella di Gerusalemme, che ebbero sempre il nome di tempio. I Templari. si distinsero sui campi di battaglia a Tiberiade (1187), a Gaza (1244), ad Al-Manṣurā (1250), a San Giovanni d’Acri (1291).
