Zibonele FM is a community radio station based in Cape Town, that broadcasts to the Western Cape using the frequency 98.2 FM. It is also available on DSTV, channel 841.
Zibonele FM started its broadcasts in 1995, becoming the first official community radio in South Africa. Its main purpose then was to provide information on health care issues to the communities, when diseases such as tuberculosis were rampant. The station evolved to include more content nowadays, offering talk shows on subjects as diverse as sports, health, finance, technology, current affairs, politics and business development. Its line-up also includes news reports with weather and traffic updates and music shows, with the latter accepting and playing music submissions by local artists.
Zibonele FM also houses an Academy that offers courses on or the Radio Production. Listeners can visit the station website to learn more about the Academy and events sponsored by the station. Here, they can also listen live to its broadcast using the radio's live streaming service or access the podcasts of the station's main shows.
