Balearic beat, Balearic house, Ibiza house... Whatever you like to call it... It's the electronic music genre characterized by its eclecticism and hedonistic sound. The beginnings of Balearic Beat date back to 1987 when British DJs Trevor Fung, Paul Oakenfold, and Danny Rampling discovered open-air parties on the beaches of Ibiza, at "Cafe del Mar" and the "Amnesia" nightclub, where Argentine DJ Alfredo Fiorito played. The DJ who created this unique style, a blend of psychedelic rock, Europop, Italo disco, early Chicago house and deep house records, as well as rare tracks by artists like Peter Gabriel and Chris Rea. All with a rhythm marked between 90 and 110 BPM. Station curated by Andy Wilson, that rare breed of Balearic DJs who actually live in the Balearics. He now works at Sonica as a freelance producer and music consultant , curating Balearic Sounds and Sonicalm, and with his weekly radio show Balearia being one of the most popular at the station, which boasts over 16 million listeners a month.
