Gaka fm is a legally well-established institution and its operations are monitored and advised accordingly by constitutionally recognized regulatory authority. It was licensed as community radio station on 11th October 2013 with license number 011229 and hit airwaves on 14th February, 2016. The radio was established by Foundation for Active Civic Education (FACE a local NGO) with technical support from the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), then called the Polytechnic- a constituent college of the University of Malawi. On 22 June 2020 the station graduated from community radio to Regional Commercial Sound Content License with License number MACRA/DG/124/dc. On air, the radio can be heard on 96.3. Gaka has undergone exponential growth and has embraced online platforms, using an application A2Z Malawi FM Radio, Gaka Fm can be heard anywhere in the World. Gaka Radio Station targets different types of audience such as farmers, mothers, under five, youths, business communities, civil servants, pensioners, bankers, entrepreneurs, people with physical challenges and local communities. The radio focuses on several thematic areas such as food and nutrition security, education and awareness, disaster risk management, health, water and sanitation, HIV and Aids, Covid-19, youth and women empowerment, economic empowerment and entrepreneurship in order to achieve human transformation.
