Om The Mighty 690 on 99.1 HD2 Malibu/Los Angeles
Welcome to a recreation of a Southern California original - The Mighty 690. From 1980-1984 The Mighty 690 blanketed Southern California with hit music from a studio over looking the Pacific Ocean south of Tijuana, Mexico. In 2010 a former intern of the station used his broadcasting experience to recreate the original sound of 690 of the 80's with a few small tweaks. The original sped up the music 3-6%. We decided not to do that. While the station was only on the air for 4 years, it effected the teens of the day which moved on to other stations. We didn't want to limit ourselves to the short 4 years the station was on so we opened up the station to music of the 80's generation, songs popular on MTV, and songs that we're breaking from Modern rock stations like 91-X. We hope that you like it! Audio quality was paramount for us. Plug in your favorite headphones and enjoy our painstaking efforts to bring the beast of the 80's back to life. All wav files streamed at 128k aac. We think it sounds pretty good. THE MALIBU CONNECTION - In the 80's FM stations from Los Angeles and San Diego were were blocked by the mountains. In the 80's if you wanted the hits, The Mighty 690 was your station. That is why we were excited to be added to KBUU-FM 99.1 in Malibu, on their HD2 signal. If you're in Malibu or LA's beach communities. Because KBUU is non-profit you have the added benefit of no commercials.
