Vance Joy's ‘Riptide' Sets Record

The Australian singer-songwriter Vance Joy is setting records with his single “Riptide”.

The hit won the record for the most weeks in the Top 100 of Australia’s singles chart. “Riptide” has now spent 107 consecutive weeks on the ARIA Singles Chart (Australian Recording Industry Association). With this achievement Vance beats Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” (106 weeks) and The Black Eyed Peas “I Gotta a Feeling” (105 weeks), neither of which were consecutive runs.

The track reached top 10 in the U.K. and No. 30 on the Billboard 200.

In addition to that, the single won the Grand Prize in 2014 International Songwriting Competition.

Joy began his path in the music industry by playing cover of songs. He is inspired by musicians like Bob Dylan and George Harrison.

Curiosity: Did you know that before entering in the world of music, Vance Joy played football? In 2008 and 2009 the artist played for the Coburg Football Club in Victorian Football League.
